In December 2023 Hughie was diagnosed with T cell lymphoma, an aggressive and rare blood type cancer. Three nights before his admission to hospital he was doing what he loved…… a football training session for his much loved Inter Cheadle ready for his upcoming Saturday morning match to play in his usual position as a strong and fierce central midfielder.
From that day our lives have been thrown in and submerged into a very unfamiliar ‘medical world’. He is now 4 months into his 3 1/2 year treatment plan. We’ve had ups and down so far along the way but Hughie is showing great strength and at this point in his journey he is one step ahead of the nasty T cell.
Hughie hugely misses training and playing footy but he loves watching his team play at weekends and continues to feel very connected and part of his team.
Our mission…..
From day 1 of Hughie’s diagnosis, we as a family became instant beneficiaries of some of the most amazing charities, many of which we didn’t even know existed. Hughie has been the driving force behind our now desire to give back to the charities we have and continue to benefit from and named it ‘The Coopers Hand’ as he wants to give a ‘helping hand’. We have a series of organised events set up and well on our way to The Coopers Hand becoming a registered charity and all monies raised will be re-gifted back to charities supporting children and families affected by cancer.
Here is a link to one of the organised events….a not for the faint heart walk to London!!
How can Inter Cheadle help?…..
At this year’s annual presentation day on 13 July we are hoping to hold an Inter Cheadle Grand Raffle. This will be an exclusive raffle for family and friends of Inter Cheadle. We’ve got some great prizes lined up already ranging from hair and beauty treatments to a signed Champions League Final Man City programme. Inter Cheadle have also agreed to donate 1 season’s free Inter Cheadle membership/registration fee as a raffle prize.
I’m sure over the coming weeks we will receive more donations. We would love everyone connected to Inter Cheadle to get involved and are respectfully hoping Inter Cheadle’s sponsors who are a brilliant example of what Inter Cheadle is as a Community Club will also want to get involved.
Many thanks,
Kate, Shane, Finlay and Hughie
